Nearly 20 years ago, I worked with my friend Christy in the first-ever, Hurricane Sock Party as a way to cope with the stress of the storms. Knitters would knit one sock, then send it, along with the remaining yarn and a 'hurricane supply kit for knitters' (including needles, patterns, and snacks), to their partner. It was a fun and supportive way to deal with the anxiety of listening to forecasts and preparing for the unknown. As one of my first major collaborations, I created custom colorways for the swap, including Blue Roof, Run Like Hell, Storm Surge, and Storm Debris.
The aftermath of Hurricanes Milton and Helene has devastated countless communities, including many of my crafty colleagues. I was so happy to find this incredible public charity called The Craft Emergency Relief Fund (CERF+) which provides vital support to artisans affected by natural disasters. As a fellow crafter, I'm committed to doing my part to help rebuild our community. In honor of the Hurricane Sock Party and the resilience of our community, I've decided to bring back a few of those original colorways. For every hand-dyed skein of STORM SURGE or RUN LIKE HELL sold, I'll donate $4 directly to CERF+.
AND....with every purchase, you will receive a knitting AND crochet pattern. My bestie, Drew the Crochet Dude & my new friend Susan Jackson of sjay_knits have collaborated with me on two patterns and I'm so excited to share them with you!
The road to recovery is long and difficult, but purchasing these special colorways can make a difference. Together, we can help our fellow artisans rebuild their lives and navigate this challenging time.
