about
as a little girl who grew up ski racing in vermont, my mother taught me how to knit at a very young age. scout's swag was born in 2005 out of my love for knitting and always thinking “I can make that!” when I saw something pretty. one day, I saw some hand dyed yarn and knew that with my eye for photography and color, I could make that too. after many hours of playing with undyed yarn and dyes in my back yard in new mexico I realized this was what I wanted to do. within a year, I was a guest on vickie howell's knitty gritty on the diy network showing how to hand dye yarn and even had a book contract to write a book on backyard dying. before I knew it, my shop was thriving, but in 2011, due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to shut down my business. insert sad face.
fast forward almost 14 years later .... now that my kids are full-fledged adults and after two life-saving organ transplants in 2023 and 2024 (yes you read that correctly) I decided it was time to revisit my passion for dyeing yarn and helping others fulfill their creative side. I am so excited to bring my passion for beauty and creating into other's lives. It’s honestly what makes me happiest. I know personally, looking at pretty things = dopamine hit! I don’t even have to do anything with it, just seeing it makes me happy.
so, welcome to finchmod. I am so glad you're here!
