The Heartbreak Hill Hat kit and pattern is the brainchild of a super fun collab with Sarah of fastandluse to celebrate the power of organ donation, the incredible work done by the American Liver Foundation, and my daughter Cam’s upcoming Boston marathon adventure in support of these important endeavors. The purchase price of the pattern alone will include a $5 donation to Cam’s American Liver Foundation Fundraiser.

In July 2023, my daughter saved my life by donating 70% of her liver to me. Just months later, in March 2024, a dear friend gave me the gift of life again by donating her kidney. It’s been an incredible journey, filled with challenges, gratitude, and hope. Since her surgery, my daughter has dedicated herself to advocating for living organ donation. She’s now a UNOS ambassador and was recently honored as the American Liver Foundation’s 2025 Liver Life Challenge ® National LIVEr Champion! This April, she’ll run with the American Liver Foundation Challenge Team in the Boston Marathon.

I’ve always had a deep love for hearts. It began with the sweet notes my mom used to send me at school—notes I still treasure today, pinned to the board behind my computer. She passed away from the same disease that shaped my journey back in 1993. Her memory lives on through four heart tattoos I’ve gotten in honor of her and my kids, and my love for hearts continues to grow. More about my love of hearts coming soon!

Last month, I came across the Textured Heart Blanket and was immediately inspired to create something heartfelt of my own. I reached out to Sarah of fastandluse, whose designs I adore, to bring my vision of a heart-patterned hat to life. Her creativity exceeded my expectations, crafting a stunning design with textured hearts nestled in purl stitches. After knitting the first one, I was smitten! And we both were even more excited that you could get not one, but two opposite hats from the two skeins!

Together, we decided to turn this hat into something even more special—a hat kit/pattern fundraiser. For every kit and pattern sold, $5.00 will be donated to Cam's American Liver Foundation Fundraiser to support their lifesaving work.
